Geordie Chippy George Gets Gong

Good fish and chip insurance is just one reason why a shop in County Durham was voted the best by the readers of the Daily Mirror.





A good business will have everything in place, including fish and chip insurance policies, and the tabloid newspaper set out to find its readers favourite chippy.





They were judged on a number of key criteria, including marks out of ten for taste of the fish and chips themselves, plus extras available, value for money and service. Eventually ten chippies were identified as being the best.





And coming up with a near perfect score of 47 was Redz Traditional Fish and Chip Shop in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. This was garlanded as the readers of the Daily Mirror top UK chippy. The three dropped points were lost on value for money (2) and extras (1). There’s little doubt it would also have a good fish and chip shop insurance in place as well.





Undercover diners were sent in by the Daily Mirror and scores were totted up as to the quality and taste of the fish and chips.





Owner George Redford who operates the fish and chip shop with wife Wendy told the Daily Mirror:


"I'm just overwhelmed. It's fantastic, I just can't believe it. We bought this place three years ago and worked our fingers to the bone bringing it from the doldrums. We remortgaged our house to buy the business, then the credit crunch came and we thought, gulp...but we never compromised on quality or anything like that."





As to the secret of his success, George said:


"The best quality potatoes, the best quality fish, getting the temperature right, and getting the batter just right. It took us a few years to crack it. But now we get people calling us saying that we have the best fish and chips they've ever tasted."

Readers would also assume that each of the above businesses would have good fish and chip shop insurance in place, as this not only protects businesses against the foreseen and unforeseen developments experienced in any commercial undertaking, but also protect employees and customers.





The top ten chippies listed above have earnt the praise of the Daily Mirror’s readership and will go from strength to strength as news of their success will spread throughout the country.
